Symptoms can vary through the day
Dry-eye symptoms can include burning, grittiness, watering, redness, fluctuating clarity or discomfort after sustained screen use. Symptoms and examination signs do not always match: some people have subtle symptoms with visible signs, while others feel discomfort despite limited findings.
Note when symptoms happen, how long they last and whether contact lenses or screen work affect them.
Why assessment matters before laser treatment
The tear film contributes to a clear optical surface and can affect measurement quality and comfort. Before refractive surgery, the clinician may examine the tear film, eyelids and ocular surface and may decide that additional management or repeat measurements are appropriate.
Dry eye does not automatically determine candidacy either way. The findings need to be interpreted with the rest of the examination.
Avoid self-prescribing from general information
Screen habits, contact-lens use, environment, eyelid conditions, health conditions and medicines may all be relevant. Do not begin or change prescription drops based on a website article. Ask a qualified eye-care professional which measures are appropriate for your symptoms.
When to seek prompt assessment
Persistent or worsening discomfort deserves clinical advice. Severe pain, sudden loss of vision or rapidly increasing redness should be assessed promptly rather than waiting for a general enquiry response. Bring a list of drops and medicines to your appointment.
